Turkey called for the development of a pact on security in the Middle East
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan called on the countries of the Middle East to form a regional security pact to strengthen stability in the region after the end of the war with Iran.
"This pact is necessary so that countries can be confident in each other," Fidan said in an interview with the state—run Anadolu news agency.
The Turkish Foreign Minister called on the countries of the region to commit themselves to mutually ensuring territorial integrity, sovereignty and security, but did not specify who exactly could be included in the agreement. According to Fidan's statement, defense cooperation between a number of regional states is "gaining momentum."
On the same day, Fidan noted that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu may choose Turkey as the next military target after the aggression against Iran. At the same time, he added that Tehran sincerely wants to achieve a cease-fire and understands the need to end hostilities.
Also on April 8, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said during a telephone conversation with Fidan that Tehran considers it possible to completely end the conflict with the United States only if Washington takes this issue seriously.
