Cairo Eye will draw in 2.5 million tourists a year, chairman

Hawaii Company for Tourism and Investments is set to lay the foundation stone for “Cairo Eye,” a large Ferris wheel the first of its kind to revolve at 120m height at the heart of Cairo on the banks of the Nile river.  

Chairman of Hawaii Company for Tourism and Investments Ahmed Sayed Metwally told Osoul Misr magazine that the company is poised to build the wheel, as  inauguration date is scheduled for the summer of 2022. 

The Egyptian government allocated land of Masalla Park - Obelisk Park- in downtown Al Zamalek district for the project which is predicted to become an icon for the Egyptian capital and to attract up to 2.5 million tourists per year, he added. 

Cairo Eye is in sync with Egypt’s strategic development plan and Egypt Vision 2030.

It provides a panoramic view of Greater Cairo across an area of 50km including all surrounding key landmarks and consists of 48 cabins with each carrying 6-8 visitors and supplied with  a monitor, he noted. 

Cairo Eye is the largest in Africa and the fifth in size across the world after those of London, Dubai, Los Vegas and Singapore, according to him. 

“The project, a major  breakthrough in Egypt’s entertainment and tourism sector,  helps draw in millions of visitors annually and hundreds of thousands of tourists, hence it supports Egyptian tourism sector and brings in more foreign currency,” he said. 

Hawaii Company for Tourism and Investments is  chaired by Ahmed Sayed Metwally, the son of the late businessman and head of Al Masry Sporting Club Sayed Metwally.
