Eng Tarek El Gamal: Redcon Construction, ROCC to sponsor UN Global Compact and African Business Leaders Coalition events during COP27

Redcon Construction is considered as one of the Egyptian companies that achieved a leap in construction sector in the recent years.

Our target is to reach EGP 8 billion of investment by the end of 2022, to sign EGP 10 billion of project contracts in 2023  

The company had adapted the latest strategies in research and developing as it was among the first companies to adapt technological development and digital transformation in construction sector in Egypt.        

Signing an MoU with an international company to boost mutual cooperation in green construction  

Redcon Construction was and is always seeking to acquire and apply the latest globally used technologies in constructions to guarantee the best production rates with the highest quality and the lowest cost.

Redcon Construction Chairman Eng. Tarek El-Gamal said in an interview with “Osoul Misr” magazine that the company is very keen, since its launching of over 27 years ago, on presenting an added value to construction sector throughout introducing new technologies to the Egyptian market.           

Sustainability and Green Architecture           

Redcon Construction is working with 10 subsidiary companies in different sectors among them construction and real estate development.           

 

Contracts target of EGP 8 bln by the end of 2022

El-Gamal said that Redcon Construction is Implementing green building techniques since 15 years ago, and had developed (A Leed Platinum building) located in the significant location at Northern 90 th street in the ٥th settlement and registered in the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).           

He added that the company was from the very first construction companies to adapt the latest technologies in its construction work, noting that Redcon Construction is offering operation trainings on the technological techniques to its employees since 2008.   

 

Around 40 projects are under construction      

Redcon Construction is applying digital transformation through five fundamental methodologies:           

1-Enterprise Resource Identification System “ERP”, which is a type of software that organizations use to manage day-to-day business activities such as accounting, procurement, project management, risk management and compliance, and supply chain operations, through “Oracle App”.           

2- Building Information Modeling (BIM), which is  a process that improves how architects and engineers design and construct buildings. Architects can create with BIM authoring tools a digital ٣D model of the building, allowing them to see a representation of what it will look like and how it will operate.           

3- Virtual Design and Construction (VDC), which is a type of technology that creates digital models of buildings and project sites. Architects, engineers, and contractors use VDC models to visualize and plan building designs, processes, schedules, budgets, and more.           

4- Digitalization, which fundamentally depends on using no paper in projects work, as it uses Autodesk BIM 360 to save time and cost as well.           

5- Leica iCON iCT30 Construction Layout Tool, to produce 3D design which offers better performance of buildings’ finishing alongside with mechanical work.           

 

A leading experience

El-Gamal Referred to the leading experience of launching “Golden Gate” project by ROOC- Redcon for Offices and Commercial Centers, one of Redcon Construction’s subsidiary companies.           

Golden Gate is considered the first commercial, services, administrative and entertaining project that is completely implemented according to sustainability and green architecture measures.           

Redcon Construction chairman pointed out that the company considers that following sustainability measures as a fundamental thing, noting that Golden Gate project’s location was chosen in the heart of New Cairo with a front of 1.25 kilometers long that directly overlooks the American University in Cairo (AUC) at the Southern 90th street.           

He referred to the company’s thoughts of the distance element, as Golden Gate’s location lies between two monorail stations, to be easily reachable from any point in Cairo and Giza governorates.           

This is in addition to offering car parking slots in the biggest garage of its kind, as it was built according to highest technology measures that aim to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.           

He elaborated that the materials used in constructing and finishing buildings of Golden Gate project are all environmentally friendly, whether it was the green concrete or the green steel or the solar power stations or the central cooling station or the wastewater recycling system, which aim to reduce the effect of the project’s emissions.       

On the sidelines of COP27… We are preparing a working paper on green construction techniques, bringing sustainability and digitalization into force in the Egyptian construction sector   

El-Gamal said that he is preparing a working paper to promote, stimulate and implement each of digitalization, sustainability and green construction technologies to present on the sidelines of the 27th UN Climate Change Conference (COP27) hosted in the Red sea city of Sharm El-Sheikh this November.

He noted that Redcon Construction will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a renowned multinational company to boost bilateral cooperation in the field of green construction.           

El-Gamal pointed out that he had also mulled enhancing cooperation in green construction field with African countries, as he received recently a Nigerian delegation headed by the Works and Housing Minister Umar Ibrahim El-Yakub and a number of accompanied diplomats in Redcon Construction’s headquarter.           

The two sides discussed during the meeting chances of bilateral cooperation and ways of entering Redcon Construction into Nigerian construction sector, as a part of the Nigerian desire to grab the Egyptian expertise in the construction field to implement projects in Nigeria.          

Contracts target of EGP 10 bln in 2023

Both the Egyptian and Nigerian markets resembles 35 percent of the African Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and around 40 percent of the total number of construction-related projects in the continent.           

El-Gamal stressed on Redcon Construction’s keenness to upgrade its experiences and offering training to its employees on the latest technology techniques in green architecture, along with giving them the chance to attend conferences held nationwide and abroad, as a green architecture and sustainability team at the company had attended during the last two years over 24 domestic and international events and workshops.           

Increase of 5-7% in ways of green construction leads to operation savings by over 40%

Speaking of green construction cost, the Redcon Construction chairman said that the green buildings construction exceeds the construction of the traditional ones by only 5% – 7 %, however, he noted that green buildings is saving operation cost and water and energy consumption by 40%.           

Contracting           

El-Gamal said that Redcon Construction is currently implementing mega projects for governmental institutions including New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA) and the Central Agency for Reconstruction (CAR), and from the private sector, the company is implementing projects for EMAAR Egypt, Palm Hills, ORA Developments, Saudi Egyptian Developers, Inertia Egypt, Shehab A. Mazhar Architects, Starlight Developments, Better Home Developments, NEWGIZA for Real Estate and Imkan Misr Development.           

He added that Redcon Construction had finished in a record time of only six months the construction work of Samsung’s tablet plant in Beni Suef governorate according to sustainability measures.           

El-Gamal noted that the company’s current goal is to achieve total capital of annual investment of EGP eight billion by the end of 2022, while it aims to sign contracts of a total of EGP ten billion in 2023.           

He revealed that Redcon Construction will sign a contract with Mega international company to build industrial plants in Badr City in order to be rented.           

Exporting constructions           

El-Gamal said that the total number of Redcon Construction’s workforce has been tripled in the recent years, as the number of direct employees is 5000 workers and 30000 indirect workers.           

He mentioned that the company is currently resuming its market researches of expansion abroad on a high level in both public and private sectors in a number of African countries, noting that the company had an integrated expansion plan, but had been delayed by the breakout of Coronavirus Pandemic.
