The Ministry succeeded in transforming Sharm El-Sheikh into the first: Lieutenant-General Kamel Al-Wazir, Minister of Transport

Lieutenant-General Kamel Al-Wazir, Minister of Transport and Communications, said the state has carried out several projects that ensure sustainability and compliance with environmental standards, both at the level of Communications, addition to the network of roads that became more developed.

The system of encrypted code readers inside the buses has been installed

Some stations on the third line of the subway “Green Line” are expected to enter the service and be ready for operation, as well as the operation of the monorail and the electric train, Al-Wazir said.

Technology and Sustainability

Availability of “Wi-Fi” network on the third line of the Metro “Green Line” and route for people with special needs

The Minister pointed out that all stations and trains on the third line of the subway dubbed the “ Green Line” are air-conditioned and have a “Wi-Fi” network. Paths for people with special needs will be designed in all metro lines and buildings overlooking the stations to help make it easier for them. Four stations are scheduled to be opened sooner. 

Launching the first line of the high-speed train, the monorail is coming soon          

The Ministry will sooner launch the first line of the high-speed train, “Ain Sukhna/El Alamein/Matrouh/Fayoum,” which is being implemented on 3 lines with a total of approximately 2000 km.

The first section of the track is being handed over to Siemens company to install electrical systems and steel rails.

The Ministry will also launch the monorail, which will be carried out in two phases. The first phase will be in the east of the Nile “from Nasr City to the New Administrative Capital,» while the second phase will be west of the Nile “from 6 October City to Mohandessin in Giza.

” The New Administrative Capital Monorail extends from the stadium station in Nasr City to the City of Justice station in the Administrative Capital with a length of 56.5 km that includes 22 stations and is being carried out through a consortium of companies including (Alstom - Orascom – Arab Contractors).

Kamel Al-Wazir reiterated that there is a breakthrough in the implementation rates of the first segment of the high-speed train, which will be delivered to Siemens company on the agreed deadline to carry out electromechanical works.

Partnership with the private sector is a tool for stabilizing the economy

The Ministry of Transport has contributed, through the maritime transport sector, in association with the relevant ministries in the state, in formulating and implementing the goals of the integrated maritime policy, that corresponds to Sustainable Development Strategy (SDS): Egypt Vision 2030.

He added that the Ministry has tailored a comprehensive plan for the complete digital transformation and automation of ports, as well as the development and modernization of the work environment within the seaports to transform them into smart ports.

«Many applications have been activated to facilitate work, such as booking trucks via the General Transportation Authority’s website, activating the unified invoice for ships, electronic collection, and the automatic linkage with all parties in the port community.

Transforming Sharm El Sheikh into a Green City           

The Ministry of Transport succeeded in transforming the city of Sharm El-Sheikh into the first Egyptian city for fully sustainable green smart urban transport in just five months, Al-Wazir said.     

120 gas-powered buses are equipped, while 110 buses will be electric ones      

He also said that “120 gas-powered buses have been prepared and equipped, including 100 buses belonging to the Cairo Public Transport Authority, and 20 buses belonging to a private company.

The buses have already arrived in Sharm El-Sheikh, and visual identity has been installed on all buses.

110 electric buses have arrived in Sharm El-Sheikh, and the rest of the buses are being received, respectively.

” The pilot operation of this system started on the ground in Sharm El-Sheikh as of September 15, 2022, uniforms have been provided to all drivers, and training courses have been prepared for all workers in the transport system at the conference.

A protocol was also signed and activated with Gas Tech to refill buses during the conference activities in Sharm El Sheikh, he explained.

Integration with the Google Maps system has been achieved

About the smart green transportation system, the Minister of Transport indicated that the system of encrypted code readers inside the buses has been installed, and integration with the Google Maps system has been achieved.     

He added that the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Communications have been integrated about the reading of passengers’ encrypted code, and 171 intermediate stations have been implemented along the tracks to consolidate the integration of the bus lanes network with the smart means provided.

The Minister of Transport also explained that the works of the charging station for electric buses have been completed, with all umbrellas, chargers, and transformers have been installed. The main distributor has been installed and tested.

Regarding the parking of electric cars, the minister explained that 150 electric cars from a national company have arrived, and all customs procedures have been completed.

Promising opportunities for the local and international private sector to invest in transportation fields in Egypt

Lieutenant-General Kamel Al-Wazir, Minister of Transport and Communications said that there are huge investment opportunities for international and local companies working in the area of operational management, as there are encouraging opportunities for investment and the partnership of the private sector with various transport sectors.

The State spent EGP 175 bln to modernize the road networks in Egypt

«The State has spent EGP 175 bln to develop and modernize the road network in Egypt.

EGP 15 bln is needed for maintenance, raising efficiency, and completing other construction works.» He said.The development of roads and main axes, as well as means of transportation, will help serve the sustainability goals.

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi President Sisi demanded to inspect the state of roads in the governorates, and the government found that the state of the roads needed EGP 37 billion pounds to develop, modernize and raise their efficiency again, Al-Wazir said.

National Road Project

The Minister said that it was planned to implement the National Road Project by constructing a network of new roads, as well as raising the efficiency of the existing roads spanning 7000 km.

Egyptian city for sustainable green transportation in 5 months

The total lengths of the main network of roads amount to 30.5 km, indicating that the implementation of the first and second phases of the National Road Project spanning 4500 km, with a total cost of EGP 75 bln, has been jointly accomplished by the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities and the Ministry of Defense.

Develop a comprehensive plan for digital transformation and automation of ports

“The third phase spanning 1300 km and the future phase spanning 1200 km are being implemented …

It has also been planned to establish (21) new axes on the Nile, with a rate of up to 87% of the existing bridges on the Nile since the beginning of its construction, bringing the total bridges to 38 on the Nile,» he concluded.
