Sharm El-Sheikh to be the first 100% green Egyptian city

Sharm el-Sheikh became the first 100% green Egyptian city، before it received the COP 27 Climate Summit، which was held in November 2022 where the Conference attendees of leaders، presidents، investors، and those interested in environmental and climate affairs and issues from countries all over the world، praised the city of Sharm El-Sheikh، its distinguished and sustainable facilities and services.

Egypt implemented a number of projects to launch the green Sharm El-Sheikh، including the deployment of green transportation، gas and electric charging stations، the completion of converting all cars to run on natural gas، the completion of raising efficiency، the construction of roads and bridges، and the increase of green areas.

 Developing Sharm El-Sheikh International Airport to accommodate 10 million from  7.5 million passengers annually 

The development of Sharm El-Sheikh International Airport، to accommodate 10 million from 7.5 million passengers annually، and the increase of aircraft waiting positions to 67 stands to accommodate the increasing air traffic to Sharm El-Sheikh Airport، were among the important works that were carried out to host the Conference.

Counters and paths were also allocated for the participating delegations، with putting all guiding signs and the Conference logo in all arrival and departure halls، as well as a promotional film about it was shown on screens inside Cairo، Sharm El-Sheikh and all Egyptian airports throughout  the summit  sessions.

The highest level of services in the Climate Summit

The highest level of services was provided to the Egypt's  guests participating in the Climate Summit، and work teams of various disciplines were formed to work 24 hours a day to speed up the procedures for the arrival of the participating delegations.

Egypt Air organizes 250 flights between Cairo and Sharm El-Sheikh airports during the summit، and direct flights from London، Paris and Munich

The national company، Egypt Air، the official carrier of the Climate Conference، organized about 250 flights between Cairo and Sharm El-Sheikh airports during the Summit period to transport about 40 thousand participants in the conference with the company's latest aircraft، as well as direct flights to Sharm El-Sheikh airport from London، Paris، Frankfurt، Munich، Istanbul، Dubai، Lagos and  Nairobi.

Transportation

Providing 360 environmentally friendly buses powered by electricity and natural gas

Regarding transportation، means of transportation have been developed to become sustainable and environmentally friendly، so 360 buses were provided، 260 of which are electric powered، 100 gas-powered buses and other buses have also been allocated for people with special needs، and all the buses operate permanently from 5 am to 12 pm، with an average of five minutes between one bus and the other.

Providing the largest electric charging station for buses in the Middle East

The largest electric charging station for buses in the Middle East was also provided، and drivers received POS devices for electronic payment in addition to providing 150 electric cars and converting 800 taxis to work with natural gas.

Technology and Energy

Launching high-speed internet in all hotels and stations

High-speed internet has been provided in all Sharm El-Sheikh hotels، Conference halls and bus stations، as well as the city has expanded reliance on solar and renewable energy.

Green Zone 

The establishment of the Green Zone for the Summit and raising the efficiency of the Peace Park were at the top of the preparations for the Climate Conference as the Green Zone served as a platform for the business community، youth and civil societies from all over the world to express their opinions and hear their voices regarding climate change and its solutions during the Conference activities.
