Swedish Ambassador in Cairo: Increased trade exchange between Egypt and Sweden by18%
Techne Summit، the Mediterranean's premier investment and startup event، is thrilled to announce that the much-anticipated 9th edition of its flagship event، "Techne Summit Alexandria"، will take place from the 7th to the 10th of October 2023 at the iconic Bibliotheca Alexandrina under the auspices of the Ministry of Communications & Information Technology، Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA)، Digital Economy and Technology General Division (DETGD)، and the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce (FEDCOC).
Osoul Misr had an interview with the Ambassador of Sweden in Cairo. H.E. Mr. Håkan Emsgård about the coming Techne Summit slated from 7-8 October،2023، being the one of continuous and key partners.
Commenting on the event، the Ambassador of Sweden in Cairo، H.E. Mr. Håkan Emsgård، said، “Techne Summit 2023 will open its doors in Alexandria. For the ninth year in a row، Sweden is sponsoring a pitching competition to support Egyptian entrepreneurs with this year’s theme “Fintech”.
He added “Because it gathers all the interesting startup people in Egypt. I think they found the concept that has proven to be very good because you can see it is expanding from one year to another، so we’re very happy to be a partner and we are very happy that they were there from the start.

a competition each year
about the role of the Swedish embassy in supporting the Techne Summit، the Ambassador of Sweden in Cairo added “We have a competition each year where we look for a couple of Egyptian startups that can go to Stockholm، to visit the startup scene in Stockholm، Sweden which is one of the most dynamic forums in Europe. We have a lot of famous startup companies، and they can network there. They can get some new ideas، and maybe we will have a link between Egyptian and Swedish startups”.
He continued “I think this year we from the Swedish side، we are focusing on thin tech، because it is a very topical issue، and we think that there is a lot of talents in Egypt in that area، and there is a lot of opportunities to work in that field. Also، to have more about the digital economy and maybe a little less cash to handle in the future”.
His opinion on the cooperation between Egypt and Sweden، that The cooperation is very good. In the economic field، trade increased 18 % Last year، despite of the challenges we are facing in the economy، the trade is increasing، so I think it is a very good sign.
The role of the embassy in supporting the Egyptian Swedish investment
He commented on the role of the embassy in supporting the Egyptian Swedish investment، “We are supporting trade in both directions between Egypt and Sweden، and we are very much like to see bugger trade، bigger export from Egyptians to Sweden، we are trying to help the Egyptian companies with that whatever we can”.
We asked him about any further plans to support investments in Egypt?، he answered “ Yeah، we had Volvo buses that we saw couple of weeks ago، as we are going to produce Volvo buses in Egypt for the European market، so I think that is a fine example، we have other companies coming at the outsource Niece company in the last 6 months، so new markets are coming all the time، and I think the potential is very good.
