German air group Lufthansa gave its employees 24 hours to leave Israel and announced that it would be canceling all flights into and out of the country beginning on Thursday

German air group Lufthansa ordered its employees to prepare to leave Israel and said it would be canceling all flights into and out of the country beginning on Thursday, according to Israel's Channel 12 news.

It wasn't immediately clear what provoked the cancellations and withdrawal from one of the company's regular flight paths.

Lufthansa currently operates out of Ben Gurion Airport outside of Tel Aviv, with flights in and out of the major city daily.

The news comes months after the air group announced that it would be resuming flights into and out of Israel after a months-long suspension, citing security concerns as war ravaged the region.

Months ago, Lufthansa announced that it would be gradually resuming its flight operations to and from Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion airport starting on Aug. 1.

Israel's airspace was closed on June 13, 2025, at the start of its brief war with Iran. The carrier group — which includes Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines and Eurowings — halted its service to and from Tel Aviv through at least July 31.

It took months for all the flights to resume their mostly regular services, and some never did.
