The company will adhere to a 20-year contract made on a usufruct basis, as Cairo Eye belongs to Cairo Governorate

An official spoke to Osoulmisr magazine to negate rumors that plan to execute Cairo Eye on the Nile River in the upscale district of Zamalek has been shelved.

A few days ago, Hawai for Tourism and Investments got hold of a dock built to serve the project, as Cairo governorate and all concerned bodies are interested in accomplishing the project on time, according to the official who preferred to remain anonymous.

Hawai for Investments and Tourism is busy now getting necessary permits and is set to get them all within days so as to  start construction next April, the source said.

Hawai for Investments and Tourism signed a 20-year contract to build Cairo Eye on a usufruct basis. Upon expiration of the contract, ownership of Cairo Eye will be handed over to the state.

Media and social media provoked a commotion through spreading rumors about shutting down the project, as they misunderstood statements released by Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Dr. Khalid Anani when he told members of House of Representatives that MTA has nothing to do with Cairo Eye project. "This is true, as the project belongs to Cairo Governorate and does not fall within jurisdiction of MTA."

" The project could never have won the approval of the governmental bodies without making sure that it fulfills all necessary requirements and complies with environmental and traffic studies."

The 120 metre high Cairo Eye, is scheduled to be launched in 2022 and will cost EGP 500 million (USD 31 million).

Cairo Eye will be the largest wheel in Africa and the fifth largest wheel around the world after London, Dubai, Las Vegas and Singapore.

The project, which is set to be an iconic landmark in Egypt, will offer a unique panoramic view of the city from a distance of 50 km and overlook Egypt’s landmarks.

The wheel features 48 cabins with a capacity of 6-8 individual per cabin, and will target 2.5 million visitors annually. The new hub will offer an integrated touristic and entertainment destination, with the aim to provide a unique entertainment experience in the heart of Cairo.

The project has put in place a carefully curated study to ensure traffic management and smooth flow of traffic to avoid congestion. Traveling to and from the Cairo Eye will be made easier with the Cairo Eye Nile Taxi, hop-on/hop-off Cairo Eye buses and a ground car park with a capacity of 500 cars.
