Lionel Mobi: “Empowering more SMEs to enter e-commerce is an important step toward building a more inclusive digital economy”
As part of its efforts to strengthen the role of e-commerce and support the digital transformation of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), Jumia Egypt, one of Africa’s leading e-commerce platforms, announced the launch of a new initiative aimed at onboarding 5,000 new sellers to its platform by the end of 2026. The initiative will enable entrepreneurs and business owners to leverage e-commerce tools, logistics and marketing services to reach a broader customer base and grow their businesses.
The initiative aims to help new sellers launch their businesses through digital channels by providing a range of free benefits from Jumia. These benefits are designed to help reduce some of the initial challenges associated with transitioning from traditional retail to e-commerce, while supporting sellers in building a customer base and growing their sales.
Under the initiative, new sellers will receive 90 days of free storage at Jumia’s warehouses, enabling them to benefit from the platform’s storage and fulfillment services and qualify for Jumia Express, which helps accelerate product delivery to customers, enhance the shopping experience and create greater opportunities for sellers to increase their sales.
The initiative also includes a free advertising package for new sellers, designed to increase the visibility of their products among Jumia’s customer base on the platform, enhance the discoverability of their assortment and help them reach potential customers faster. This will support sellers in building their digital presence from the beginning of their journey on the platform.
The initiative is part of Jumia Egypt’s efforts to strengthen the role of e-commerce in empowering SMEs and entrepreneurs by providing an integrated ecosystem that brings together the marketplace, logistics, warehousing and advertising tools. This enables businesses to expand the reach of their operations and access markets and customers beyond their traditional footprint.
E-commerce provides SMEs with opportunities to expand and reach customers beyond their traditional geographic markets, while offering greater space to showcase their products and leverage digital tools to market their offerings and reach consumers.
The new initiative builds on Jumia Egypt’s ongoing efforts to support local businesses and provide them with greater opportunities to benefit from e-commerce.
The new initiative represents an evolution of this journey, as Jumia moves from focusing on increasing the visibility of local products to empowering more sellers to launch and grow their businesses digitally, by providing tools that help them reach customers, improve delivery speed, increase product visibility and unlock greater sales opportunities.
Lionel Mobi, CEO of Jumia Egypt, said that empowering more SMEs to enter the world of e-commerce represents an important step toward building a more inclusive digital economy.
He added that the initiative aims to facilitate the digital journey of 5,000 new sellers by providing the logistical and marketing support they need to reach customers faster and grow their sales.
He further explained that Jumia’s role goes beyond providing a platform for selling, extending to building an integrated ecosystem that helps sellers grow and scale their businesses, creating new opportunities for entrepreneurs, supporting local businesses and contributing to the growth of Egypt’s digital economy
